THE TEACHING ENGLISH EXPERIENCE

The Teaching English Experience is a one week (8 night) work tour in which English speaking volunteers come to Guatemala in order to teach English to our students. The teachers work one on one with our highly motivated students and thus have the opportunity of making deep personal connections and sharing cultural perspectives as well as providing English lessons.

The teaching tours are held in Antigua , Guatemala at the Belen Convent, a historic structure which is run by the sisters of Belen, a religious order which originated in Guatemala . The morning classes take place in the beautiful old convent gardens which invite the teachers and students to walk and move aroun as well as work at tables. In the afternoons the teachers and students continue their lessons in even more informal settings as they explore the sights of historic Antigua .

The first Teaching English Experience which was held in December, 2009 was rated highly successful by both the students and the volunteer teachers. All of the students and many of the teachers indicated that they would like to do it again next year. With that in mind we have reserved the Convent for January 4 th to January 12 th , 2011. The teaching tour will cost $900, which is partially tax deductible, includes room and board at Belen for both the teachers and their students and all expenses except for air fare. For those who arrive on the 4 th and leave on the 12 th we will also include pick up and delivery to the Guatemala City airport.

If you are interested in participating in the 2011 teaching tour please e-mail us at progresa3@gmail.com and mardugan@earthlink.net for further details.
